At Pilgrim’s Europe, we are focused on making quality food sustainably. We want to utilise our scale to make a difference and further drive best practice across our value chain to deliver positive impact.

Our sustainability strategy is built on five key pillars: Sustainable Agriculture, Responsible Sourcing, Sustainable Production, People and Social Sustainability, and Governance, Risk and Reporting.

Our implementation framework focuses on a protect, resilience, and champion approach, and we actively collaborate with stakeholders across our business and supply chain to effectively deliver our goals and commitments.

Sustainable Agriculture

As a responsible business and industry leader, we recognise the need to uphold and drive forward high standards of sustainable farming.

From environmental considerations in the farming process to helping preserve and increase biodiversity in our local ecosystems, our approach to sustainable agriculture acknowledges the need to act across 5 focus areas: climate change, nature, land management, animal health & welfare, and water.

Responsible Sourcing

Our Responsible Sourcing covers 5 focus areas: key raw materials, deforestation, supplier engagement, animal health & welfare and transport & logistics.

We are committed to zero deforestation and work across our supply chains and with key industry partners to tackle this global challenge. As a signatory of the UK Soy Manifesto, we are committed to ensuring all physical shipments of soya to the UK are verified to be fully implemented immediately where possible and no later than 2025.

We continuously assess our impact on local communities and seek to improve our processes, where possible. In doing so, we aim to achieve the highest industry standards and to continue making a difference.

Sustainable Production

We are dedicated to helping minimise our environmental footprint across our production processes, where possible.

Our commitment to sustainable food production puts an emphasis on 5 key focus areas including climate, water, waste & circularity, packaging and food safety.

As part of this effort, we work to ensure that our processes are viable, whilst taking into consideration key factors to help us make a meaningful impact. Through this, we are committed to reducing our use of plastic throughout our business and supply chain, and we continue collaborate with academics and partners to review how we can reduce our use of plastics across our product portfolio.

People and Social Sustainability

As a value led business, we believe the success of our company starts with our people. We are committed to providing a safe and well managed workplace that provides opportunities for our team to thrive.

Our 5 focus areas of this pillar are: DEI&B & Wellbeing, Health & Nutrition, Community, Human Rights and Learning & Development.

We regularly review and improve our practises through effective due diligence and risk assessment, raising awareness of Modern Slavery and other key issues, collaborating to protect the most vulnerable groups in our society.

We are active members of our local communities, supporting organisations important to our colleagues. As a leading food manufacturer, we also support through product donations, donating over 2 million meals in 2023.

Governance, Risk and Reporting

As a top UK and European food business, strong governance is essential to our success. Our Governance, Risk and Reporting pillar has 5 focus areas: Health & Safety, Ethical Business, Risk Management, Due Diligence and Industry Collaboration.

We ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations in all jurisdictions in which we do business, and define and promote a culture of ethical business conduct for the company and its team members, supportive of the company’s vision and values.

We work collaboratively with key industry working groups to share best practice and learn how we can all collaboratively work together to tackle joint challenges. We also operate an Ethics Line, a confidential reporting tool, to assist collaborative working to address misconduct in the workplace, with a focus on cultivating a positive work environment.
